Anthony Scully is eager to return and resume his peak performance under the Shrewsbury manager.

A new signer Under Shrewsbury manager Michael Appleton, Anthony Scully is eager to go back to his peak playing form.

The two-and-a-half-year Lincoln City coworkers were a part of the Imps team that advanced to the 2021 League One play-offs against Blackpool, but lost 2-1.

After rising through the West Ham development ranks, Scully, a dynamic attacker who is most comfortable on the flanks, scored 37 goals in 106 outings for Lincoln.

Scully was transferred to Championship team Wigan due to his prolific play in an exciting Lincoln team. More recently, he has been on loan at Colchester United and Portsmouth.

When Scully rejoined Appleton and No. 2 Richard O’Donnell for a one-year contract, he stated: “I am eager to collaborate with them once more.” In the past couple weeks or so, I have been in contact with the gaffer.

“I was ecstatic about the opportunity to return to work with the gaffer and Rich when he first accepted the position and we first spoke about possibly coming here.

“I had the best spell of my career playing there (with them) and I can’t wait to get going.”

In addition to well-known players at the level like Jorge Grant and Lewis Montsma, Scully’s exciting Lincoln squad featured loan players Alex Palmer, Morgan Rogers, and Brennan Johnson who have subsequently played in the Premier League.

“I think the gaffer’s preferred style of footballer really suits how I want to play,” the direct and quick winger continued.

I played a lot of football under him—roughly 100 games—and the style of play is perfect for my style of play. “I’m hoping to get the same outcome we had at Lincoln here.”

Shrewsbury has signed Anthony Scully to a one-year contract.

Scully’s two-year tenure with Portsmouth, where he won the League One title, was cut short by injuries more recently.

However, earlier this month, Danny Cowley, the manager of Colchester, where Scully has trained this summer, commended the winger’s level of fitness and drive.

Scully went on: “I’m prepared. I’ve done a great job of staying in shape this summer. “All he wants is for me to be myself.

I just need to walk in and be myself because he has worked with me for two or three years and knows precisely who I am.

“I want to attack, create, or score goals for the club. I can play off the left or right, up front, or as an attacking midfielder.

“I work hard so first and foremost they will see a lot of hard work from me and then to bring creativity of goals and assists will be brilliant.”
