Assessing Millwall’s bold transfer model – and where it might lead them this summer

 

JUST over a year ago, seismic news reverberated through the Millwall ecosystem.

On May 10, 2024, long-time CEO Steve Kavanagh, director of football operations and recruitment Alex Aldridge, and Chief Operating Officer Billy Taylor were all leaving. Later that day, Steve Gallen was announced as the Lions’ next director of football.

Millwall would be going in a new, modern direction.

The new strategy would be all about sustainable investment – identifying and signing young talents whose value could grow as they improved. If they got snapped up by a bigger club, then the Lions could use the profit from that sale to reinvest in the squad.

Not every single player would work, but hopefully with the right scouting and recruitment team in place, enough will that the value of the squad will continue.
