Aston Villa rejects Everton’s £18 million bid for John McGinn.

The captain of Aston Villa has stated unequivocally that he is not leaving. Sky Sports reports that the club has turned down Everton’s £18 million offer for John McGinn, demonstrating their desire to have the nucleus of their team in place before the start of the Premier League and another European campaign.

McGinn was a primary priority for David Moyes, who was keen to give his Everton team leadership and experience. According to Sky Sports, Moyes values McGinn’s “leadership, experience, and versatility” and considers him a key target.

This development feels like yet another lost chance for Everton fans in an already disappointing summer. John McGinn was never merely a shortlist name. He was a voice, a leader, and someone who could give a midfield that had been lacking in personality and motivation for too long.

Although the club’s valuation seemed reasonable for a player entering his thirties, £18 million won’t get you very far in the current market. The feeling that they moved early, clearly, and still failed will hurt more.

Villa’s goals are obvious. Everton’s? Not so much. Yes, McGinn’s contract still has two years left on it. Indeed, Everton is not in Europe, but Villa is. However, that does not imply that Everton should abandon the game.
