Attacker signs two-year deal overseas following Sheffield Wednesday exit

Mallik Wilks has found a new club, just over a week after his contract with Sheffield Wednesday expired.

The news was not surprising considering that it had already been rumored in Turkish media, but it was confirmed on Wednesday night that the 26-year-old has signed a two-year contract with Pendikspor, partnering former Rotherham United colleague Jonson Clarke-Harris.

It is the beginning of a new chapter in the attacker’s career following a terrible stint at Hillsborough, and it is his first trip abroad, as he joins the TFF First League team that plays in Istanbul.

Mallik Wilks has a new club.

They verified the news on their official social media accounts, writing, “Welcome Mallik Wilks! Our Pendikspor has signed Mallik Rashaun Coley Wilks from Sheffield Wednesday on a two-year contract.

“Good luck with your Pendiksport uniform, Mallik!” Wilks was one of seven players dismissed at the end of their contracts last month, joining Stuart Armstrong, Ben Hamer, Ryo Hatsuse, Michael Ihiekwe, Marvin Johnson, and Pol Valentin. At the time of writing, Ihiekwe and Valentin are the only other two who have found new clubs, signing with Blackpool and Preston North End, respectively, with the others undoubtedly considering their options.

Those released are also likely to be among the players owed money by the Owls as their ongoing salary dispute continues, with everyone needing to have their amounts settled in full before the club can lift its transfer embargo. Wilks, at least, now knows what his future holds.
