Australian ‘wonderkid’ admits Celtic ‘is the one club I want to play for’

During his nine years at Celtic, Rogic won 16 trophies and was a superstar. He will always be known for his goal against Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final during the Invincibles season.

Marco Tilio has now joined the Parkhead club, and despite his struggles, there is still a potential that he will perform well.

But despite his difficulties at Celtic, the newest young Australian sensation is still determined to move to Glasgow and play for Scotland’s top team.

Dylan Leonard, who is currently a player for Western United in the Isuzu UTE A-competition, achieved history at the age of 17 by being the youngest debutant in the competition.

The youthful center-back, who has made 24 appearances this season, talked of his desire of wearing Celtic’s iconic green and white Hoops someday after seeing Kristopher Ajer.

“They were players (I modeled my game on) genuinely based off what my dad had told me,” Leonard, who was called a “wonderkid,” told A Leagues 20.

I frequently watch Celtic players, such as Kristoffer Ajer, who used to drive in and out of the stadium.

“I wanted to incorporate something I learned from his style into my own, such as being a center-back who can play forward and step in when the team steps back, to change the game.”

The young Australian acknowledges that The Maestro, Paul McStay, has influenced his playing, suggesting that Ajer is not the only Celtic player Leonard looks up to.

“He [Leonard’s father] used to talk a lot about Paul McStay as well,” Leonard added. Instead of keeping the ball and playing conservatively, he would play forward. Some players’ ability to play forward can alter games. That was something I’ve attempted to incorporate into my own game, even as a center-back.” One of my football dreams is definitely to play for Celtic.

“Obviously, I want to win something with Celtic, but that’s the one thing I want to do and the one team I want to play for.”

Last summer, Leonard, who has three Socceroos U19 caps, guided his country to a 1-0 away victory against Myanmar.

The young defender clearly has a lot of talent and a deep love for Celtic.
