Bailey Cadamarteri’s first international goal as Wednesday’s youngster shines for Jamaica

After making an early impression for Jamaica, Sheffield Wednesday player Bailey Cadamarteri is now a goal scorer for his country.

After being called up for this month’s World Cup qualifiers, the 20-year-old was thrust right into the mix by former England boss Steve McClaren. Last week, as they defeated Bermuda 4-0, he was just a stroke of paint away from scoring his first goal.

However, he didn’t have to wait long to score, as the young Owl was given a second straight start in Kingston when Trinidad and Tobago visited. He returned McClaren’s faith by opening the score shortly after the half, minutes after the visitors’ goal was disallowed for offside by VAR.

“Cadz” contributed to the second goal, though it won’t be recorded as an assist, and the Reggae Boyz retained their lead in the standings with a 2-0 victory in an exciting match at the National Stadium Independence Park. Trinidad can’t complain about the final rulings, even though they had three goals chalked off for offside in the end.

The path taken by Bailey Cadamarteri to the World Cup

With four games remaining in Group B, Cadamarteri and the Jamaicans are leading by two points. The qualifications will conclude in November with an away match against Trinidad and Tobago and a Curacao visit to Kingston. In October, there will be flights to Curacao and a home match against Bermuda.

By the time it’s all over, the young Owls forward will be hoping to have booked his ticket to the 2026 World Cup alongside Yan Valery.

Both Cadamarteri and Valery will now head back to Sheffield, where Henrik Pedersen will be extremely happy that they survived their qualifying matches, and start getting ready for this weekend’s Championship matchup against Bristol City.
