Sheffield United defender Anel Ahmedhodzic has been labelled as ‘pure class’ by The Star reporter Danny Hall.
Sheffield United triumphed 3-0 away to Bristol City in the opening leg of their Championship play-off match. Harrison Burrows, Andre Brooks, and Callum O’Hare scored for SUFC at Ashton Gate, giving them a comfortable lead going into the second leg on Monday at Bramall Lane.
Ahmedhodzic, 26, has been a significant performer for the Blades in recent years, helping them keep a crucial clean sheet against the Robins. He has made 39 league appearances this season and scored three goals from the back.
Journalist Hall was impressed by his performance on Thursday evening and he has delivered his verdict, as per a report by The Star: “The big Bosnian barely broke sweat all evening – not from a lack of effort but from his pure class. He seemed to be in the right place at the right time so often to snuff out the danger and was typically composed on the ball, too.”
South Yorkshire concluded the regular season in third place in the league table. They finished outside the top two, trailing Leeds United and Burnley.
Sheffield United latest regarding Anel Ahmedhodzic
Sheffield United recruited Ahmedhodzic in 2022 to strengthen their defence. He has since become one of the SUFC’s most valuable assets.
Since then, the centre-back has played 109 matches and scored 11 goals. He helped them return to the first tier in 2023 under previous manager Paul Heckingbottom.
He spent three years in Malmo before his transfer. He also spent time on loan at Hobro IK and Bordeaux, both outside of Sweden.
Ahmedhodzic was also on Nottingham Forest’s roster as a kid. He made one appearance for the Reds’ main team before moving to Scandinavia.
What now for Sheffield United?
Sheffield United delivered a polished performance against Bristol City. SUFC was aided by the fact that their opponents were reduced to ten men on the stroke of halftime after Rob Dickie was dismissed.
Nonetheless, the Blades looked strong and were well worth their victory. They will hope for more of the same in the second leg.
Wilder’s players have one foot at Wembley, but they still have work to do. The Robins will have nothing to lose in the upcoming game and should come out strong.
