BBC reporter shares what he’s heard on “amazing” Sheffield United manager link
A crucial update has now dropped about Sheffield United’s probable hunt for a new manager, with Ruben Selles feeling the fire.
Selles under huge pressure at Sheffield United
The Blades’ start to the 2025/26 season has been disastrous, with the team sitting bottom of the Championship and failing to pick up a single point in their first four matches. Manager Selles, who replaced Chris Wilder this summer, is under pressure to improve and pundit Jobi McAnuff has stated that there are “no excuses” for him not to do so.
“It’s been a mess of a summer – starting with the sacking of Chris Wilder. From what I’ve seen I’ve not been impressed with Ruben Selles in the way he’s set the team up – he’s not getting the best out of the group yet.

“He maybe wasn’t given the tools he needed to put a team together that can go and get results which gives him a little bit of an out but he should be doing better with the squad he has at his disposal.”But he certainly has no excuses with what he’s brought in now.”
Understandably, certain names are already being touted as prospective replacements for Selles, should he be freed of his duties at Bramall Lane, and a vital update has emerged regarding one rumoured target.
Danny Rohl to Sheffield United update
BBC Sheffield’s Rob Staton wrote on X on Sunday that Danny Rohl would not be Sheffield United’s next manager because there is too much controversy around his career with rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
In actuality, it is difficult to imagine Rohl becoming Blades manager given the anger it would elicit among Wednesday followers, even if Blades fans would find it entertaining. The 4-2-3-1-playing German is a highly regarded young manager who led the Owls impressively away from relegation in 2023/24, with Chris Waddle among those impressed by his performance at Hillsborough.
“It was a lot of free transfers, there was a lot of players who played in League One with that team. I thought he got them organised, he got them together. The players obviously rolled their sleeves up and gave it 110%, and he got his reward. You know, at one stage, we were talking about getting in the playoffs, which was amazing.”
Hopefully, a new manager isn’t required for United, with Selles overseeing a revival during the international break, but it’s fair to say that the present mood at the club isn’t very good, with big improvements needed quickly.
