Bears Make Record-Setting Decision Involving Key Defensive Player
On Sunday afternoon, general manager Ryan Poles and the front office created NFL business history by reaching an agreement with cornerback Kyler Gordon.
The agreement includes a three-year deal worth $40 million, of which $31.25 million is guaranteed.
Adam Schefter, a senior NFL insider for ESPN, reported:
Gordon will have a home for a long time because the lease is valid through the end of the 2028 season, as Schefter revealed.
Gordon concluded the 2024 season with five PDs, 48 SOLOs, 27 ASTs, and 75 TOT.
His efforts, nevertheless, were insufficient to help the Chicago Bears qualify for the playoffs.
With victories over the Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Rams, Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Green Bay Packers, head coach Ben Johnson’s team finished with a 5-12 record.
When compared to the rest of the league, the teams on the list weren’t the best either.
Caleb Williams, a rookie quarterback, passed for more than 3,500 passing yards, but the Bears failed to win at least six games.
Furthermore, D’Andre Swift’s 959-yard performance as a running back was insufficient.
According to ESPN, the Bears finished bottom overall in team total offensive statistics. Additionally, to paint a larger perspective, the Bears recorded 4,839 yards and the Baltimore Raves 7,224.
All things considered, Gordon’s deal imposes a lot of pressure on him and the defense to help the team finish the 2025 season on the plus side of the record column.
