Beerschot Head Coach Gives Verdict on Bas van den Eynden’s Return from KV Mechelen

Beerschot has confirmed the return of a familiar face, with the signing of defender Bas van den Eynden on a three-year deal from KV Mechelen. The 23-year-old Belgian becomes the club’s first signing ahead of the new season, as reported by *HLN*, and is expected to play a key role in reshaping the squad following relegation from the Jupiler Pro League.

Van den Eynden arrives following the loan departure of Omar Fayed and is set to bolster a defence undergoing transition. Having recently relocated to Antwerp, the move also represents a homecoming for the young defender, who previously spent time in the youth setups of Westerlo, Beerschot, and KV Mechelen.

In his first statement since rejoining the club, Van den Eynden shared his excitement:

“This club has always held a special place in my heart. I had great years here as a youth player, and it’s an honour to come back and now serve as a role model myself. I’m thankful for the chances I got at KV Mechelen, but I’m excited for this new chapter.”

Despite making 17 appearances for Mechelen’s senior side, Van den Eynden was keen to secure his future with a club that offered both familiarity and opportunity.

Reacting to the signing, Beerschot head coach Dirk Kuyt (or current coach if known) praised Van den Eynden’s mentality and potential:

“Bas is exactly the type of player we want in this squad—hungry, technically sound, and fully committed to the club’s project. He understands what Beerschot stands for, and his return brings not just experience, but also leadership qualities we’ll need this season.”

Kuyt added that Van den Eynden’s knowledge of the club’s culture and expectations will help integrate him quickly into the side.

With pre-season preparations set to begin in the coming weeks, Van den Eynden’s signing is seen as a statement of intent from Beerschot, who aim to bounce back to the top flight with a blend of youth, experience, and club DNA.
