Ben Foster and Ben Tozer played important parts in Wrexham’s progress and will now work in a new area.
Wrexham have announced that two of its most prominent players from previous years have returned to the club in a new capacity.
After achieving an unprecedented third consecutive promotion last season, Phil Parkinson’s side is ready for their first season in the second tier since 1981/82.
The Red Dragons are expected to be particularly busy in the transfer market, and they have already completed two signings: Danny Ward, who returned to the club 13 years after leaving for Liverpool, and Ryan Hardie, who joined from Plymouth Argyle.
However, Wrexham have re-signed Ben Foster and Ben Tozer, albeit not as playing staff.
Both stars played key roles in Wrexham’s 2023 National League title win, with vice-captain Tozer appearing 52 times and goalkeeper Foster returning from retirement to assist Wrexham win with a dramatic last-gasp penalty save against Notts County.
Tozer announced his retirement from football on Foster’s podcast in May, but the two will team up again for Wrexham on their forthcoming pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand.

Wrexham face Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC, and Wellington Phoenix ‘Down Under’, and the club has just stated that Foster and Tozer will be attending a number of the club’s ‘special Soccer Camps’.
The workshops, which are open to boys and girls aged 5 to 14, will be led by coaches from Wrexham’s foundation, but Foster and Tozer will be there to share their knowledge in Melbourne and Sydney.
On his return, Foster told Wrexham’s official website: “I’m looking forward to heading out to Australia; it’s the type of trip that people only get to do once in their lives, so I’m really looking forward to it.”
“We do take football seriously, but we like to do it with a smile on our faces, and we want to share how this really special football club likes to do things.”
“I’m really excited for the opportunity to travel with this amazing Club as part of the Town Down Under Tour, helping with Wrexham AFC Soccer Camps,” Tozer continued.
The manager of Wrexham turned down Ryan Reynolds’ original request
In order to increase their appeal on a global scale, Wrexham would play three games “Down Under” during their tour. However, co-owner Ryan Reynolds suggested a fourth match against Auckland FC, who were founded in 2024 and won the A-League Premiership in their debut season.
However, while a first meeting might have been attractive, Parkinson was not interested. “I really wanted us to play Auckland FC, which is a new team, and they finished first in their first year,” Reynolds explained on the Men in Blazers podcast.
“I just liked the idea of the third-oldest football club playing one of the newest, but Phil was like ‘absolutely not, we’re getting these players back to Wales ASAP after Wellington’.”
On August 9, Wrexham start off their new Championship season against demoted Southampton.
