New Celtic signing Benjamin Nygren has been given the famous No.8 shirt, following in the footsteps of club greats Scott Brown and Kyogo Furuhashi.
On Friday, the Swedish international signed a five-year contract with the Scottish champions after leaving Danish club FC Nordsjaelland for a fee of £1.7 million.
Fabrizio Romano verified the squad number:
His arrival is greeted with high expectations, not just because of his impressive form in Denmark, where he scored 15 goals last season, but also because of the history associated with the jersey now on his back.
Nygren, 23, has four caps for Sweden, scoring twice, and joins in Glasgow after a remarkable domestic and European campaign. He scored three goals in the Europa Conference League versus Fenerbahce, demonstrating the left-footed ability that drew Brendan Rodgers’ notice.

The Celtic manager heaped praise on his new attacker, describing him as a “quality player who will add to our attacking options” and someone the supporters would “enjoy watching.”
As Celtic prepare for a hectic preseason schedule and another run at the Champions League, Nygren is anticipated to get his first taste of play in the coming weeks.
The Hoops will begin their preparations with a friendly against Queen’s Park on July 4, followed by matches against Cork City, Sporting CP, and Newcastle United. Nygren takes up the No.8 shirt, a garment rich with significance and anticipation, and Celtic fans will hope he can make it his own.
