Biker Killed in Lichfield Collision as Police Issue Appeal

A motorcyclist has tragically died following a serious road traffic collision in Lichfield, prompting a police investigation and public appeal for information.

The fatal incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, just after 2:30pm, on the A51 Tamworth Road near the Whittington Barracks junction. Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and a car. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the motorcyclist—a man in his 40s—was pronounced dead at the scene.

Staffordshire Police confirmed that the driver of the car, a silver Vauxhall Astra, was not seriously injured but was treated for shock. No arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.

In a statement released Monday morning, police appealed to the public for any witnesses or dashcam footage that might help piece together the circumstances of the crash.

“We are urgently appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident,” a spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said. “This is a devastating loss, and we are determined to establish the full facts to provide answers for the family.”

The road was closed for several hours to allow collision investigators to carry out their work, leading to traffic delays in and around the area. The closure stretched from the junction with the A38 to the turn-off for Whittington, with diversions put in place.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed it sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer, and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford to the scene. “On arrival, crews found the motorcyclist in a critical condition,” said a spokesperson. “Despite advanced life support being administered at the roadside, sadly, nothing could be done to save him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Tributes have begun to pour in on social media, with friends and members of the local biking community expressing their shock and sadness. One post read, “Heartbreaking news—ride in peace, brother. You’ll be sorely missed by all of us.” Another described the victim as “a kind soul and a passionate rider who lived life to the fullest.”

Local residents also voiced concerns about speeding and road safety in the area. “This stretch of road has seen several accidents over the years,” said one resident. “Something needs to be done before more lives are lost.”

As police continue to investigate, they are urging anyone who saw the collision or has dashcam footage from the area at around 2:30pm on Sunday to get in touch. Witnesses can contact Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 412 of April 13, or submit information via the police’s online portal.

This tragedy marks another sobering reminder of the risks on the roads and the importance of vigilance and road safety for all users. As the biker’s family mourns an unimaginable loss, authorities are committed to uncovering what happened on that fateful afternoon.
