Billionaire Birmingham City owner makes Ryan Reynolds comment ‘some won’t like’.
Birmingham chairman Tom Wagner has made a comment about Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney that he admits may not go over well in some circles.

Birmingham City’s chairman Tom Wagner has admitted that the club is inspired by rivals Wrexham. This season, the Blues won the League One title, ahead of the Welsh side in second place.
Birmingham is expected to finish higher in the upcoming Championship season, reigniting the rivalry. The Blues aim to return to the Premier League under ownership group Knighthead, while Wrexham plan to rebuild their squad.
Wagner has been impressed by the Red Dragons’ rise under Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, as their team achieved their third consecutive promotion. The ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ docuseries on Disney+ has featured Birmingham prominently in recent episodes, capturing their remarkable story over four seasons.
The Blues will have their own documentary on Amazon Prime this summer, highlighting their successful League One campaign. In an interview with The i Paper, the American hedge fund manager expressed admiration for Wrexham and the club’s owners. However, he acknowledged that this could potentially offend Birmingham fans.
Wagner stated, “On the commercial front, no one has done it better than Wrexham, who have generated extraordinary revenue streams out of thin air.
“That is not a mistake. Ryan and Rob have brought true storytelling genius to that club, and I believe it is to be admired and, to some extent, emulated.

This season, Reynolds and McElhenney, as well as Blues minority owner Tom Brady, have traded some light-hearted barbs. The NFL legend discusses the rivalry between the two teams in the early episodes of series four of the Wrexham documentary.
Brady tells a reporter, “It’s a friendly competition…well, not so friendly.” He’s also seen watching a clip from an It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia episode in which McElhenney’s character Mac expresses his desire to break Brady’s arm.
When asked about the former quarterback’s involvement in Birmingham, Wagner responded, “Tom is engaged 365 days a year, literally. I don’t go a day without speaking, Zooming, or texting with Tom about a club-related topic.
