Birmingham City: The best pubs for home and away supporters near St Andrew’s
The stadium has hosted the team in four league championship seasons since 1906. In the 2011–12
season, City was able to host some European football in their historic stadium by bringing back the
League Cup.
Many supporters pass through the Gill Merrick Stand turnstiles, and numerous visiting teams have
used the stadium’s away changing facilities.
Every British football fan is aware of the custom of drinking a few beers before to 3 p.m. If you’re
travelling to St Andrew’s, these are the top pubs for both home and away supporters.
The Cricketer Arms (away)
The nearest pub to the stadium that is appropriate for away fans is this one. It is definitely
preferable for travelling supporters to avoid the majority of the bars around the stadium because
they don’t have the finest atmospheres. However, if you want to be confined to the ground for a
drink before to the game, The Cricketer is the place to be.
Both the Football Ground Guide and the Away Guide recommend it as an excellent venue for
visiting supporters to go before the game. The pub isn’t only for away fans, but according to one
Chelsea supporter, the City supporters who do frequent there are really welcoming.
The address for the pub is Little Green Lane, Birmingham, B9 5AX. It is, roughly, a 10-minute walk
from the stadium.
The Anchor (away)
Many travelling fans will take the train or some public transportation to get to St Andrews, thus not
all of them will be driving there.
This is a fantastic area for supporters to stop on their way to the stadium if they will be arriving in
the heart of Birmingham.
It is not on the most direct path from the town core to the stadium. However, because it’s located at
308 Bradford Street, it’s close to both the Bull Ring, which has a lot of dining and shopping options,
and the major rail stations.
Another boozer that Away Guide suggests is this one.
The Roost (home)
Recently, there has been a fair amount of media coverage about The Roost. Before attending his
first City game, NFL legend Tom Brady, the club’s new American investor, stopped into the tavern.
He got a really warm reception and was surrounded by Blues fans.
In order to connect with fans, rapper Jaykae also brought well-known musician Ed Sheeran to The
Roost last season.
Situated within a short distance from the ground on Cattell Road in Small Heath, it was named the
second-best spot for Birmingham City supporters to get a drink on a matchday by Birmingham
World.
The Old Crown (home)
We now move on to Birmingham World, which is the best spot for Blues fans to be on a matchday.
As with The Anchor, it’s a good fit for fans travelling from within and outside the city.
It is considered to be one of the greatest pubs in the neighbourhood and has an 8 out of 10 rating
on Booking.com.
