Birmingham City told to “let him go” and sanction midfielder’s exit to Huddersfield Town
When Blues won the race to sign Brighton’s midfield player last year in what appeared to be a true coup, there was a
lot of enthusiasm within the club.
Even though Leonard helped Chris Davies’ team win the championship in spectacular fashion, he didn’t play as
much as he would have liked because Tomoki Iwata and Paik Seung-ho became the starting lineup in the middle of
the park, so he mostly played from the bench.
Huddersfield Town plotting move to sign Birmingham City’s Marc Leonard
Leonard has slipped further down the hierarchy since Tommy Doyle was added to Davies’ options this summer, and
it appears that he will have difficulty getting playing time going forward.
Since Championship and MLS clubs are vying for the 23-year-old’s services, it has been said that Huddersfield is
hoping to jump in and sign him.

Nevertheless, it means a departure from St. Andrew’s feels inevitable, and when asked by FLW about the prospect of
losing Leonard, FLW’s Blues fan pundit Jason Moore admitted he does feel the midfielder is a good player, but he
explained why he may not be ready to be part of a group that is looking to reach the Premier League.
Marc Leonard needs to leave Birmingham City for the sake of his career
Although Leonard has the potential to be a very good player, most people would agree that Paik and Iwata have been
a great team for the Blues.
It’s difficult to imagine Leonard not spending the majority of this season on the bench if he stays, especially with
Doyle in the mix and his Premier League experience. Leonard is too excellent for that.
These things happen in football, and it’s a shame for Leonard, but he needs a fresh start, and to show what he can do
on a weekly basis, even if that means dropping back down to League One with Huddersfield.
So, you would expect something to be agreed, and Leonard’s exit could suit all parties in this window.
