Blackburn man to run from Manchester to Holland for charity

On August 21, Raja Aslam, who works with Olive Branch Fostering, is scheduled to take on the enormous task. He will be collecting money for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award charity, which supports the development of resilience, self-assurance, and life skills in youth from all walks of life.

In order to reach his goal of The Hague, Raja, 37, will be running approximately 13 kilometers per day, or a half marathon.

He anticipates completing the task in eight to ten days.

Raja said the challenge will be a trip down memory lane as he returns to the city where he grew up before going to the UK, in addition to raising money for charity.

“I was born and raised in the Hague, and I moved to Manchester when I was ten years old,” he stated. I’ve been residing in the UK ever since.

“My run will lead me back to the areas where I was born and reared, as well as where I have many childhood memories.

For me, it’s a voyage filled with nostalgia. I’m not aiming to meet a time target or competing to reach a specific distance each day.

After running the Manchester Marathon while fasting in 2023, Raja said, “My friends and family are excited and shocked.

They said I will always come up with more physical challenges to take on. This is something I have always wanted to do since I started running.”

Raja and his wife, who have been foster carers for five years and have taken ten children into their care—presently, they have four foster children in their care in addition to four of their own biological children—will begin training in about two weeks.

Raja stated, “I am doing this with my fostering company. We came together to decide to do this challenge and support children who need the Duke of Edinburgh scheme. We also want to push foster kids in the company to take on the Duke of Edinburgh.” “Fostering is something we love doing and still plan to do more of in the future.

My wife’s parents fostered children, so she has witnessed what my children go through now.” In addition to four of my own children, there are currently four children living in the house: the youngest is a seven-month-old baby, and the oldest is nine years old.

“Fostering transforms lives, not just for the children, but for the foster carers too. I wanted to do something daring to highlight what’s possible when you have the necessary support, belief, and chances, something that Olive Branch and the Duke of Edinburgh initiative encourage every single day.

“I’ll be bringing the testimonies of young people whose lives have been transformed by fostering with Olive Branch Fostering/BSN and the DofE program with me at every turn.

“Any support, awareness-raising, or financial contributions would be greatly appreciated.”
