Blackburn Offer Middlesbrough Target Tyrhys Dolan New Deal
Blackburn Rovers have made a fresh contract offer to Tyrhys Dolan in a bid to fend off mounting interest from Middlesbrough, who are reportedly leading the chase for the highly-rated winger.
The 22-year-old, who has become a key figure at Ewood Park over the past few seasons, is attracting serious attention from Boro as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new Championship campaign. Dolan, known for his direct running, technical ability, and energy on and off the ball, has impressed scouts across the league and is seen as one of Blackburn’s most valuable assets.
Middlesbrough’s recruitment team, led by Head of Football Kieran Scott, have been tracking Dolan for some time, with the club keen to bring in players who can operate in wide areas and offer creativity in the final third. Dolan fits the profile perfectly — young, talented, and with Championship experience — making him an ideal target as Michael Carrick continues reshaping his squad for another promotion push.
Scott, who is set to be rewarded with a new deal by chairman Steve Gibson, has built a strong reputation for his astute signings since taking over recruitment at the Riverside. The likes of Emmanuel Latte Lath, who finished last season as Boro’s top scorer, and Dutch defender Rav van den Berg, who developed into a composed and commanding presence at the back, are just a couple of his notable successes.
Recognising Scott’s impact, Gibson is now finalising a contract extension that will keep the recruitment specialist at the club for the foreseeable future, as Middlesbrough look to continue their trajectory of smart, sustainable team-building. The potential arrival of Dolan would be another feather in Scott’s cap, as Boro aim to add both depth and dynamism to their attacking department.
However, Blackburn are not giving up without a fight. The new deal offered to Dolan is said to include improved terms and a longer commitment, with Rovers eager to build their future around some of their brightest academy graduates. With Jon Dahl Tomasson’s departure last season and managerial uncertainty briefly disrupting plans, Blackburn now seem determined to regain stability and keep hold of their key players.
Despite the contract offer, there is a growing belief that Dolan may be tempted by the prospect of a fresh challenge and the opportunity to work under Carrick’s progressive coaching style. Middlesbrough’s strong track record of developing young players, coupled with their ambition to return to the Premier League, could prove persuasive.
While nothing is yet agreed, and Blackburn remain hopeful of tying Dolan down, Middlesbrough’s interest is genuine and increasingly advanced. The coming weeks could prove decisive, with Dolan likely to weigh his options as pre-season preparations begin to ramp up.
For now, the ball is in the player’s court, but one thing is clear: Middlesbrough’s pursuit of Dolan is part of a broader strategy led by a trusted recruitment team, with Kieran Scott’s influence once again central to their ambitions.
