This photo, taken on Darwen Street in Blackburn at the corner of Jubilee Street, shows Blackburn’s new telephone exchange nearing completion in 1964.

The Merchants Hotel, which dates back to the 1890s, is located on the left side of the junction and has since evolved into the Stage Door, Last Orders, and the Vic.

Part of the Palace Theatre can be seen behind the telephone exchange building, facing the station.
