Blackburn Rovers have joined Lancashire rivals Preston North End and Derby County in the pursuit of Hull City defender Cody Drameh.

With another season of Championship experience under his belt, Drameh, 23, is a hot topic of transfer talk this summer.

He joined Hull as a free agent after being released from Leeds United and has only been there for one season. He appeared in 28 Championship games for the relegation-threatened club, 17 of which he started.

Blackburn Rovers join Derby and Preston North End in the Cody Drameh transfer race.

According to the Lancashire Evening Post, Blackburn have expressed interest in signing Drameh this summer after being impressed by his performances.

Derby and Preston have already rejected offers for Drameh. The Tigers are currently looking for a new manager after sacking Ruben Selles. County manager John Eustace worked with the right-back while he was on loan at Birmingham City in the 2023/24 season.

According to Pete O’Rourke, the initial proposal to Hull was for a loan. According to the LEP, Preston made a verbal offer first, followed by an official bid a few days later.

These rejected approaches have not deterred them, however. Sky Sports reported that they are expected to return with new terms.

Derby may sign Drameh, who Hull reportedly values at £1 million, on a permanent basis. The Tigers may need to lower their valuation to sell the 23-year-old player, according to the LEP.

Blackburn, like the club seeking to acquire Drameh, is going through a difficult time. On Thursday, it was announced that Steve Waggott, the club’s former CEO, had left his position.

The sudden announcement of the 77-year-old’s departure at Ewood Park raised questions about his motivations beyond retirement.

Hull City have a very strong Cody Drameh position.

With three league rivals vying for the right-back, the Tigers can afford to stick to their reported £1 million asking price. He also has two years left on his contract, so they truly hold all of the cards in this situation.

The only thing that could harm them is the manager situation. Acun Ilicali, the owner, hopes to complete the process within a week, but this is not guaranteed.

Plus, whoever succeeds Selles will need time to assess Drameh’s potential value to Hull in the future. Blackburn, Derby and Preston will not want to wait too long for a decision on the full-back.
