Blackburn Rovers move to sign Ajax midfielder after Championship loan

Blackburn Rovers are in talks to sign Ajax midfielder Sivert Mannsverk after he spent last season with Cardiff City, reports Anthony Joseph.

Blackburn Rovers manager Valérien Ismaël is actively moulding the squad during his first transfer window at the Lancashire club. After a rocky start to his tenure, the Frenchman guided the team to a strong finish at Ewood Park, briefly reigniting their play-off hopes.

Yet, as with past top-six pushes, Rovers ultimately fell short once more. Determined to change that narrative, Ismaël and his team are setting their sights on a serious promotion challenge in the 2025/26 campaign.

Rovers are making moves in the transfer window already, with Sidnei Tavares and Dion De Neve already through the door. Now, BRFC are progressing on a third new signing.

According to reporter Anthony Joseph, Blackburn Rovers are in talks to sign Ajax midfielder Sivert Mannsverk. The 23-year-old spent the 2nd half of last season with Cardiff City as they were relegated from the Championship.

The Norwegian has been told that he can leave Ajax, and Blackburn Rovers are offering a way out. Mannsverk joined Ajax in 2023 but has made just 18 appearances for the Dutch giants.

Travis replacement?
Club Captain Lewis Travis looks likely to leave Blackburn Rovers after nine years at Ewood Park. Travis has made over 250 appearances for the club, but interest is mounting in him this summer.

A reunion with John Eustace at Derby County looks to be an option for Travis, but many other Championship sides are keen. BRFC could be preparing themselves for that departure with a move for Mannsverk.

While the Norwegian did not set the world alight with Cardiff, he possesses a lot of promise. He could be a very tidy pickup if a deal can be agreed with Ajax.

Big few weeks ahead
There are expected to be many incomings and outgoings still to come at Ewood Park this summer. Huge decisions have to be made over many of the first team squad.

Along with Travis, Ryan Hedges, Sondre Tronstad, Domonic Hyam and Callum Brittain all have their deals up next summer. Rovers need to decide whether to cash in or not this summer.
