Blackburn Rovers told to fend off Sondre Tronstad exit threat amid “sad” Callum Brittain situation

Blackburn Rovers, who finished eighth in the previous season under Valerien Ismael, are getting ready for another Championship season.

In order to advance to the Premier League, the Lancashire team will be looking to improve on their standing from the previous season.

With this being his first market as Blackburn manager, the Croatian has the chance to bolster his first-team roster during the summer transfer season.

But keeping players will also be crucial because Tyrhys Dolan and other players have already left Ewood Park this summer.

Blackburn urged to keep Brittain and Tronstad

Callum Brittain was picked by FLW’s Blackburn fan analyst Simon Middlehurst as the player the team must retain this summer.

In addition to praising the full-back as their best player in recent years, he hinted that it will be crucial to retain Sondre Tronstad.

“Callum Brittain, it’s that easy,” Middlehurst told Football League World.

When healthy, he adds a great deal to the squad and has been Blackburn’s best player by a wide margin over the past two years.

“Both defensively and attacking, he pops up with quite a few assists and he’s got a couple of goals here and there, so that is one player that we just cannot simply afford to sell.

“However, I think it’s probably going to happen that he’ll leave the club, which is sad.

Sondre Tronstad, however, is another player besides him.

“He has been outstanding for Rovers over the past two years, and we cannot afford to lose him.

He has matured and gained popularity among fans.

I think there are speculations that his family hasn’t really adapted to life in England, which is reasonable if you consider it that way. He may be considering moving back to Norway or Europe, where they appear to be a little more settled.

“So, those two players, yeah.”

On August 9, Blackburn will play their first away game against West Brom.

Brittain’s contract situation will be tricky for Blackburn

Brittain’s contract is set to expire next summer, leaving the club in a difficult position at the moment regarding his future.

The reported interest from Middlesbrough is only making matters worse, especially as their rivals will know he could be attainable at a lower cost than typically expected.

Callum Brittain – Blackburn Rovers league goals and appearances (per Fbref.com)
Season Appearances (Starts) Goals (Assists)
2022-23 27 (15) 0 (1)
2023-24 44 (40) 1 (5)
2024-25 33 (30) 2 (5)

They will need to cash in on him this year unless they are willing to let him leave as a free agent next summer, as it has been reported that he has rejected a new contract.

For Blackburn, losing a player of Brittain’s calibre heading into the upcoming season would be devastating.
