When CITY returns to League One, they are preparing for another exciting Valley Parade.
They were given a home start against Wycombe, the play-off semi-finalists, by the fixture computer yesterday.
It is looking to be a spectacular start to the new season on August 2, having earned promotion last season on the strength of an outstanding performance in BD8.
The idea of another thrilling environment supporting the club in their first game out of the lowest level since 2019 has Graham Alexander licking his lips.
Additionally, he does not want the novelty to fade.
“It’s going to be fantastic,” Alexander declared. People are constantly discussing what we’ve seen at Valley Parade over the past five or six games, and I never get tired of hearing about it myself.
However, we hope that it will be the first game of many that we play at Valley Parade.
“We’ve put a lot of effort into developing a genuine rapport and trust with the supporters. Last season, we had an incredible home record, and we hope to build on that success with more victories.
“The first game isn’t all that important. We want the fans to stick with the club for ten months, not just the first game, and throughout the entire season.
In the 2018–19 season, City won their last League One opening against Shrewsbury, one of two wins under Michael Collins‘ brief tenure as manager.
According to Opta statistics, they have a very strong home record on the first day of a third-tier season. City has won eighteen of the twenty-three times the season has begun at Valley Parade.
The Bantams will play demoted Luton two weeks after Wycombe, and in September, Huddersfield will visit the University of Bradford Stadium for the inaugural West Yorkshire rivalry.
Alexander went on to say: “The last league match versus Huddersfield was eighteen years ago. Cardiff has been in the Premier League, and Luton Town was there two seasons ago.
“There are certain fixtures that are very exciting.
“With our fan base and the love we receive both at home and away, I genuinely believe that some League One clubs will be excited to visit us as well.
“Hopefully, we’ll be a strong addition to the category and a fierce competitor. That’s what motivates me.
“It’s wonderful to enter a season with excitement and hope, and we have that.”
