Brentford in talks to sign Liverpool ace for surprisingly low fee

According to sources, Brentford is close to selling a regular starter to Bayer Leverkusen and has begun negotiations to sign a Liverpool ace as his replacement.

Brentford quietly went about their business this season, finishing in the top half and scoring an outstanding 66 Premier League goals.

That result surpassed Chelsea’s score of 64 and put them within a hair of Newcastle (68 goals scored) and Arsenal (69). These three teams all ended in the Champions League positions.

Brentford, on the other hand, conceded 57 goals, and reports suggest that section of the pitch is in need of repair. According to Fabrizio Romano and Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany, Brentford are planning to sell keeper Mark Flekken to Bayer Leverkusen.

On Wednesday, Romano posted on X: “Bayer Leverkusen are in the final stages of a contract for Mark Flekken, who is likely to be the new custodian for Erik ten Hag (new Bayer Leverkusen manager).

“Personal terms are not an issue as club to club talks are well underway.” According to a follow-up from Plettenberg on Thursday morning, Leverkusen is negotiating a fee of between €10 million and €14 million for Flekken.

However, of far more significance to Liverpool supporters is the player Thomas Frank’s team is in talks to replace Flekken. Plettenberg wrote: “Brentford are continuing to push to sign Caoimhín Kelleher.

Talks with the player and Liverpool are ongoing.” 26-year-old Kelleher is expected to replace Mark Flekken, and Brentford and Leverkusen will start negotiations as soon as an agreement with Kelleher is reached.

It is anticipated that Flekken will cost between €10 and €14 million in transfer fees. Verbal agreement is carried out as disclosed.

Unexpected Kelleher transfer cost revealed. Kelleher has made no secret of his desire to be a regular starter at Anfield, but with Giorgi Mamardashvili on his way, that will not be possible.

Alisson Becker will remain first choice, with Mamardashvili slotting in as No. 2. Rather than being demoted to No. 3, Kelleher will be allowed to depart.

According to initial reports, notably those from The Athletic, Liverpool was offering £30 million for a player who has reportedly proven himself to be more than capable of starting in the top flight.

However, a different Sky Sports story indicated that Liverpool’s valuation had decreased. ‘Sky Sports News understands Thomas Frank’s side made an approach to sign the player on Wednesday, who the Reds value in excess of £20 million.’

The price decline is clearly not reflective of Kelleher’s performances this season, as he has stood tall when necessary.

Kelleher even stopped a penalty from Kylian Mbappe during Liverpool’s UCL group stage win over Real Madrid. Instead, Kelleher’s contract status is likely to have caused the lower asking price.

Kelleher is set to approach the final year of his contract, and given that he has publicly stated that he wants out, the Reds’ £30 million objective may have been too optimistic.

Brentford and Liverpool have recently done business, particularly with reference to Reds sales. Sepp van den Berg and Fabio Carvalho were sold to the Bees last summer, and Kelleher could soon join them.
