Brighton transfers 2025: Striker to make League One switch after a tough spell at Portsmouth.

Brighton striker Mark O’Mahony is likely to sign a season loan with League One club Reading.
O’Mahony, 20, spent last season on loan in the Championship with Portsmouth, although his time at Fratton Park was hampered by injury. The Republic of Ireland under-21 international made only 13 league appearances for John Mousinho’s side, scoring three times.
The Athletic’s Andy Naylor wrote: “Mark O’Mahony is joining Reading on loan after the 20-year-old Republic of Ireland striker spent last season on loan to Portsmouth.” O’Mahony joined Brighton from Cork City in 2023 and has played four first-team games for the club.
He made his Premier League debut for Burnley under former manager Roberto De Zerbi in April 2024, and subsequently made his first start in the top level against Bournemouth.
His only senior goal to date for the Seagulls was during a 4-0 win against Crawley Town in the second round of the Carabao Cup, just before his move to Portsmouth. He is contracted with Brighton until June 2027.

Despite the transfer of Joao Pedro, Brighton remains well-stocked in attacking areas, and first-team opportunities next season will be incredibly difficult to come by.
Reading, which recently acquired new ownership, will ideally compete in the top half of League One. O’Mahony desperately needs a season where he can play at least 30 games and get his career back on track.
Former Albion manager De Zerbi admired his abilities and had previously compared him to Brighton’s other Irish striker, Evan Ferguson, claiming that O’Mahony understood possession better.
