Bristol City ‘reach verbal agreement’ with club as they push to sign eight-goal winger ahead of La Liga trio

The youngster scored and assisted at the Under-21 European Championships this summer.

Bristol City are believed to have reached an agreement with Georgian football club Kolkheti Poti over the signing of a talented 22-year-old winger.

TEAMtalk understands The Robins have expressed a strong interest in Giorgi Abuashvili and have made plenty of progress in terms of negotiations in recent weeks but adds that they still need to convince the player to be a part of the project at Ashton Gate with various clubs from around Europe also showing interest.

The Cider Army have so far strengthened the team with the signings of Preston North End talisman Emil Riis, Plymouth midfielder Adam Randell, Southampton goalkeeper Joe Rumley and Yu Hirakawa after the winger’s loan move from Machida Zelvia was made permanent.

They finished in sixth position under Liam Manning last term and are looking to build on that campaign with an even better year under new boss Gerhard Struber.

The outlet claims a verbal agreement in terms of valuation has been met with Kolkheti Poti, who finished in ninth position in the Georgian league last term.

Bristol City are looking to once again assemble a team that can compete at the upper echelons of the Championship table after a massively progressive season last time out.

The Robins finished in sixth position last term and showed signs of flirting with promotion before ultimately falling short in the play-offs against Sheffield United.

City are keen to improve on their goal tally of 59 from 46 games last term and see Giorgi Abuashvili as the calibre of player that could improve the team’s attacking output.

Abuashvili found the net eight times in 18 appearances in the Georgian league last season while playing for a team that finished second bottom in the league standings.

He’s known for his ability to play on either wing and has established himself as one of his nation’s most promising young talents. He scored and assisted against France in a 3-2 defeat at the Under-21 European Championships and was amongst the standout players for Georgia Under-21 despite their group stage exit.

Georgia are a nation which have made huge strides on the international stage in recent times and their ability to produce young players seems to be improving with each passing year.

Champions League winning winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia of Paris Saint-Germain is at this stage the country’s biggest star, but other names such as Giorgi Chakvetadze of Watford and Georges Mikautadze of Lyon have also showcased their credentials in European leagues.
