After securing qualifying for Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil team with a 1-0 victory, Bruno Guimaraes is heading to the World Cup.
In Ancelotti’s first game as manager, Brazil drew 0-0 with Ecuador, but early on Wednesday morning, things appeared to be improving for the Selecao as they defeated Miguel Almiron’s Paraguay 1-0 to guarantee their spot in the competition the following year, thanks to a goal from Vini Jr.
After coming close to scoring late in the game, Bruno played the entire 90 minutes for Brazil, earning acclaim from the Brazilian media for his enthusiasm.
The Newcastle United captain’s discipline was questioned, so it wasn’t all good news.
Bruno’s tendency to lose his temper when things don’t go his way is something we’ve witnessed for Newcastle on several occasions. Last night, GOAL rated our captain with a score of 6/10.
“While not exactly a role model for discipline, I enjoyed playing the enforcer role and kept the ball moving.”
Although we adore Bruno’s devotion, he will eventually run into problems because of it.
Bruno received a rating of 6.5/10 from Globo Esporte, which highlighted his uneven passing as a problem and gave him an additional 0.5.
He fluctuated between happy and unhappy times. He would occasionally miss a basic touch or attempt a pass that went against the lines. He was crucial in “dragging” the marking and allowing the midfield to move more fluidly. He nearly scored in the 43rd minute of the second half with a shot from the edge of the area, but the goalie blocked it. It was tense right up until the end.
Bruno needs to take some time off before the upcoming season, and we have no doubt that he will be returning home to prepare for Sandro Tonali’s wedding.
