The Bulls may have made it to the URC final, but disharmony in the team camp could reportedly threaten Jake White’s job.
This past season, the Bulls emerged as the top local domestic side, with coach Jake White leading the Pretoria-based side to the URC final before losing to Leinster.
As always, White was outspoken on a variety of topics throughout the season, including some unusual comments after the title game in which he indicated the Bulls simply had the player quality to compete with a club like Leinster.
There were also times when he appeared to publicly criticize some players, and it now appears that a firm attitude has been adopted within the team.
According to Rapport, skipper Ruan Nortje and fellow Springbok Marcell Coetzee headed a player delegation that met with Bulls management to discuss matters concerning White.
According to reports, White’s relationship with assistant coaches Chris Rossouw and Andries Bekker has deteriorated as well.
End of the road for Jake White at the Bulls?
White has been with the Bulls since 2020, and they have had great success along the way, although occasionally falling short in important knockout games.
It is understood that difficulties surrounding White’s leadership have been simmering for some time, and a Bulls board of directors meeting in early July might now decide his future.
Former Lions coach Johan Ackermann, who is currently assisting the Junior Boks, is considered to be a candidate to replace White if he is let go.
