‘Burnley ahead’ – Clarets already made progress for signing, provide ‘fierce competition’ to rival

Burnley and AS Monaco are interested in signing Trabzonspor’s goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır during the summer transfer window. That is according to L’Equipe, whose header reads ‘Burnley ahead’ in the race for the 29-year-old.

In 43 appearances this season, the Turkey international has kept 18 clean sheets and conceded 52 goals. Monaco is considering Çakır for their goalkeeping needs.

According to the report, the Ligue 1 club has begun investigating the stopper’s status at Trabzonspor. They say that Monaco will face ‘fierce opposition’ from Burnley in the hunt for his services.

According to the French daily, the Clarets have made headway in signing the player during the last few weeks. In addition to Burnley, two undisclosed Turkish clubs are negotiating behind the scenes to keep him in the Süper Lig.

Although L’Equipe reports Burnley is ahead, there is no indication he is willing to choose them over other clubs. Çakır’s contract with Trabzonspor expires in 2027, and there is no mention of the transfer fee.

James Trafford has played an important role in Burnley’s promotion to the Premier League. He had 29 clean sheets and allowed 16 goals in 45 games this season. Trafford is set to start if Burnley can keep him at Turf Moor.
