Callum Robinson may be considering Cardiff City exit – Charlton, Oxford & QPR should cast their eyes

With only a few weeks until the 2025–26 EFL season begins, Cardiff City and several of their players may still be

adjusting as they get ready for the new season.

Callum Robinson is one of those players, who might be considering a transfer away from Cardiff City Stadium

instead of trying to lead the Bluebirds’ anticipated League One promotion challenge.

That is actually a bit of a problem as well, as Yousef Salech has usurped Robinson’s place as Cardiff’s main offensive

target, so it is not entirely certain that he is the man leading the line in any case.

Robinson might be forced out of the game because Salech is expected to be the key guy at Cardiff, but the Republic of

Ireland international has shown himself to be a very valuable operator at the Championship level and has even

played in the Premier League.

There should be a far longer queue for his services than just those two, though he has already been linked to moves

to Wrexham and his old team Preston North End.

In light of this, Football League World has examined three Championship teams that are likely to make a summer

move for the 30-year-old attacker.

Charlton Athletic

Nathan Jones Charlton Athletic

Charlton Athletic is perhaps the team most in need of improving the calibre of their roster, and Robinson’s addition

would undoubtedly be a huge boost for a recently promoted team.

Robinson would help Nathan Jones achieve his goal of having a diligent team that can annoy teams when they visit

The Valley. Robinson has previously excelled for teams like Preston and West Bromwich Albion.

Jones’s style of football, which reflects his aggression and intensity, fits the profile of an attacker like Robinson

because he can play a relentless pressing game while maintaining a level of skill that may be higher than the Addicks

currently possess.

Their current attacking setup boasts the likes of Matt Godden and new signing Isaac Olaofe, as well as Miles

Leaburn. Whilst a fair bit of pedigree and quality Charlton may well be missing a bit of pace and dynamism, which is

something that Robinson would certainly provide.

Oxford United

With a strong run of play in the second part of the season, Oxford United’s football style under Gary Rowett kept

them safe in the Championship the previous season, but there will be some worries going into the current campaign.

The U’s had to become extremely rigid and regimented, which was a far cry from his predecessor, Des Buckingham,

and his practical yet progressive possession-based football philosophy.

Josh Murphy did play for Oxford when they were promoted, but it was his exit that probably best demonstrated the

difference in attacking skill between Oxford and the rest of the Championship.

While Rowett’s ability to maintain them in the top division was amazing, it would seem that they would need to

become a little more daring if they wanted to stay in the second division for a few more seasons.

Oxford United 49

To do so, they will need to raise the quality in the final third and Robinson is someone who can not only do that, but

can also, as he has done in the past, be a talismanic figure in attack for struggling sides.

Queens Park Rangers

This summer, Julian Stephan, who has a reputation for developing young players, whether they are academy

products or transfer market gems, was brought to Loftus Road to replace Marti Cifuentes.

But the former Rennes manager is also known for playing a particularly forward-thinking and alluring brand of

football that necessitates a good deal of movement in the last two thirds of the game.

Robinson should undoubtedly be an alluring option for Stephan and the R’s due to his versatility, which allows him

to play both out-wide and through the middle with comparatively comparable performance.

Although the team being assembled at QPR is exciting for the time being, there will be some worry that the team’s

potential is not fully understood, and with a manager new to English football, it wouldn’t take much for that to be

nearly disastrous.

A little Championship nous and experience would fit in nicely in west London with players like Charlie Kelman,

Kwame Poku, and Karamoko Dembélé, who are exciting but may not yet reach their full potential.
