It has become customary for Plymouth Argyle to play away games on Boxing Day each year and the Green Army will be looking out to see if that continues for the 2025/26 campaign.

The Pilgrims have not played on December 26 in front of their own fans at Home Park since 2016 as they are currently on a run of eight successive away matches on that date. That sequence was extended in 2024 when Argyle travelled to play Coventry City in what turned out to be Wayne Rooney’s penultimate game as their head coach.
On Thursday, June 26, when the Carabao Cup first round draw and the Vertu Trophy group stage are also held, Argyle and the other EFL clubs will learn their 2025–2026 schedule.
Since their League Two draw with Wycombe Wanderers in 2016, in which Jordan Slew, Jake Jervis, and Yann Songo’o scored goals, the Pilgrims have not played at home on Boxing Day.
Gary Sawyer’s goal gave them a 1-0 victory at MK Dons on December 26 of the next year, but they suffered a 2-1 defeat at AFC Wimbledon in 2018. On that occasion, the visitors scored through David Fox, the club’s newly appointed head of football operations.
