Cardiff City may regret controversial £6m Middlesbrough transfer despite memorable Swansea City moment

There was a hole in Cardiff City’s defense after Bruno Ecuele Manga left for Guingamp, a French team, and his replacement is now maybe seen as a financial error.

In his five years at Cardiff City Stadium, Manga made 160 appearances and established himself as one of the team’s most dependable defenders, turning him into a true cult figure.

Aden Flint, his replacement, came from Middlesbrough for an upfront payment of up to £6 million plus add-ons. He brought Championship experience and a reputation as one of the division’s top goal scorers to the table at the age of thirty.

Warnock was drawn to him because of his aerial skill and set-piece threat, having scored 36 goals in 206 games for Bristol City, a rival of River Severn, between 2013 and 2019.

But because Flint had spent five incredibly successful years at Bristol City, a rival of Severnside, helping them earn promotion from League One to the Championship in 2015, the signing was problematic right away.

Naturally, Cardiff supporters welcomed Flint’s arrival, which coincided with Marlon Pack’s and came just a year after the team’s historic signing of Bobby Decordova-Reid from across the River Severn. However, at Ashton Gate, things weren’t exactly that way.
