Carrick’s contract as Middlesbrough manager terminated

Carrick’s contract as Middlesbrough manager terminated.

Middlesbrough have decided to terminate manager Michael Carrick’s contract.

This marks the end of the Championship’s longest-tenured current manager. Carrick signed a new three-year contract last summer.

Boro have now terminated the contract after the former Manchester United player failed to steer the club to the play-offs in the previous two seasons. Carrick spearheaded a comeback at the Riverside Stadium against all odds.

However, he was unable to compete at the top of the table. Middlesbrough won only one of their final six league games last season, finishing in 10th place, four points behind the play-offs.

Chairman Steve Gibson and the board have reviewed the season following Coventry City’s final-day defeat, and the club has decided to terminate Carrick’s contract.
