
CCTV Released as Police Investigate Knife Incident in Gloucestershire
Gloucestershire Police have launched an appeal to the public after a shop worker was left shaken when a man allegedly brandished a knife during a suspected theft.
The incident took place at a retail premises in Gloucestershire, where a man was reportedly confronted by staff over concerns he was attempting to steal items. According to the police, the suspect responded by producing a knife, causing alarm and distress to the worker involved.
In an effort to identify the man, police have now released a CCTV image taken from inside the store. The footage shows a man wearing a blue hooded jumper with the hood up, and an orange T-shirt underneath. The image, captured shortly before the alleged incident, clearly shows the man’s clothing and build, though his face is partially obscured by the hood.
A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Constabulary said:
“We’re investigating an incident in which a man is believed to have threatened a shop worker with a knife after being challenged about a suspected theft. Thankfully, no one was injured, but the incident has understandably left the member of staff shaken.”
Officers are now asking for the public’s help in identifying the man shown in the CCTV image. Anyone who recognises him, or who may have witnessed the incident or seen anything suspicious in the area at the time, is urged to come forward.
“This was a frightening experience for the victim, who was simply doing their job. We are determined to identify the person responsible and would encourage anyone with information, no matter how minor it may seem, to contact us,” the police spokesperson added.
Knife-related incidents in retail environments have become an increasing concern for shop workers across the UK, with several trade bodies calling for more protections and tougher penalties for offenders. The British Retail Consortium has repeatedly highlighted the growing issue of violence and abuse towards shop staff, urging authorities to take a firmer stance.
The shop where the incident occurred has not been named publicly at this stage, but police have confirmed that enquiries are ongoing and that local officers are reviewing additional CCTV footage and speaking with potential witnesses.

The police have reiterated that no arrests have yet been made and that their investigation remains active. They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a man matching the description in the area before or after the incident.
As the investigation continues, the community is being urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour in or around local shops.
Authorities hope that by circulating the CCTV image, someone will recognise the man and assist them in bringing the case to a resolution.
