Celtic ‘set’ for surprise J-League transfer raid as Nicolas Kuhn braced for £15m offer from Bundesliga giants

It may be three in, one out as the Hoops transfer window opens with an explosive boom.

RB Leipzig is reportedly preparing to make a £15 million bid for Celtic striker Nicolas Kuhn, while the Hoops are looking to the J-League for their latest addition.

It was always going to be a summer of upheaval at Celtic Park, where Brendan Rodgers planned to rearrange the squad, but it has sprung into action like few transfer windows in recent memory.

Kuhn began last season on fire, and in January, he was spoken about as the next talent to shatter the departing transfer record with a £25 million+ move to the English Premier League.

His form dipped towards the conclusion of the season, with only four Premier League goals since the turn of the year.

However, there is still plenty of interest, with Leipzig reportedly preparing a £15 million bid for the wide player.

Kuhn, of course, scored a historic double to sink the Germans in the Champions League league phase last season, as well as a critical goal against Bayern Munich in the knockout stages before they were tragically ousted with one of the last kicks of the ball.

According to sources, that has piqued Leipzig’s interest, and they are considering a massive summer transfer that would surpass the £3 million they paid to recruit him in January 2024.

Kuhn’s contract is still valid for four years, therefore Celtic will not be under any obligation to sell to the highest offer.

The Hoops are in advanced talks to sign forward Benjamin Nygren, who could step right into Kuhn’s shoes, while a deal for Fulham forward Callum Osmand is almost completed.

However, they will not be the last signings.

According to The Herald, Celtic are preparing to re-enter the Japanese market for defender Hayato Inamura.

The 23-year-old, who presently plays for Albirex Niigata, is left-sided and can play both centre-back and left-back.

He is currently involved in a J-League relegation struggle, and it has been said that Celtic are ready to move for him now in order to improve Rodgers’ defence and give two qualities he lacks in one fell swoop.

Liam Scales is now the only naturally left-sided centre-back who played for the club last season, and there is no real backup for Kieran Tierney if Greg Taylor leaves.

He would be the club’s most recent Japanese addition, behind Daizen Maeda, Kyogo, Reo Hatate, Tomoki Iwata, and Yuki Kobayashi.
