Celtic set key transfer aims amid debunked theory as instant exits for two signings pondered

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has busted a Parkhead transfer theory, admitting that immediate exits for two of his summer recruits have been considered.

The Hoops are in Italy for a round of friendlies against strong opponents ahead of the new Premiership season, starting with Ajax and then face either Como or Al-Ahli at the weekend. Transfer talk is very much on the agenda, with Shin Yamada, the most recent J League arrival, plucked from Kawasaki Frontale to bolster Rodgers’ forward options.

He has confirmed, however, that new defender Hayato Inamura and forward Callum Osmand are considering loan moves to get senior experience. Rodgers has rejected the notion that Celtic are buying players for him, insisting that it is a collaborative effort.

Celtic Transfer Update

Rodgers stated, “It’s pretty straightforward. There will be players on our recruitment team who are committed not only to the present but also to the future. Clearly, I’ll look at those players to see if they can come in and play. We’ll need extra players specifically. But it’s still very much connected.

“People recognize the model. Players may not be expected to hit the ground running, but some do. That is what I need to evaluate, but I also need to win now, and we need to bring those players in. In any case, I shall bear responsibility. I don’t care where they’re from; I just need good players who can help us win today, tomorrow, and next week.

“I have always developed players, so I value that aspect, but I also recognize the importance of the present. Look at Callum, a young, gifted player; is he ready now, or does he require a loan? You won’t know until you assess him. Inamura, the idea was that he was a talented player, but he had only played professional football for one year. He’s a very skilled player, so we’ll have a look at him. He planned to train but could need a loan. In reality, he has come in and performed admirably.

What Brendan Rodgers plans to do in the transfer market

Rodgers has agreed that more has to be done in the transfer market. He said, “Yamada is only inside the door. He has the profile and traits we want, but I believe there is more work for us to accomplish. It’s about getting quality players who I can develop and who will help Celtic. There was some discussion on who came in last year and what they brought.

“For starters, they didn’t determine the price. But, two, Celtic performed as well as they have in a decade, and those players contributed significantly. Auston Trusty, Arne Engels, and Adam Idah all contributed significantly to our success, and those players still have room to grow. I’m not too interested about whether a player costs £250,000 or £12 million.

“I’ve seen and worked with players who cost more and others who cost less but are far superior. The market is not as straightforward as it appears, but I am certain that as a club, we will bring in the appropriate players.
