Celtic to net major windfall as megabucks EPL transfer opens door for ambitious £8.4m deal

Celtic are expected to get a transfer bonanza this summer as EPL giants Liverpool close in on a major deal.

Celtic are likely to receive a six-figure windfall just days after their heartbreaking loss to Aberdeen, which will provide them a significant boost in their transfer window ambitions.

Following their Scottish Cup penalty shootout defeat to the Dons at the weekend, it was revealed that former Celtic full-back Jeremie Frimpong had boarded a plane to the UK to finalise a £29.5 million move to Liverpool, which could earn the Hoops millions in sell-on fees, with the unexpected cash injection potentially improving their chances of securing a key summer signing.

The Bayer Leverkusen defender, regarded as a significant signing for the Anfield giants, left Celtic Park in 2021 for an undisclosed amount, joining the Bundesliga giants on a four-and-a-half-year contract with a releasing clause estimated to be worth £29.5 million.

However, it is claimed that as part of the deal that brought Frimpong to the BayArena, Celtic included a stipulation that would see them receive 30% of any future fee if the Netherlands international left the club.

After winning the Bundesliga in 2024 with coach Xabi Alonso, the Dutch defender has become one of Europe’s most sought-after full-backs, with Liverpool manager Arne Slot apparently pursuing the 24-year-old for several months.

Red Star are said to be aiming for a sum of around €10 million (around £8.4 million) for Milosavljevic, with the Daily Record reporting that Celtic’s initial bid for the player was rejected.

However, with a significant increase in their transfer budget, the club may now be able to make an even better offer. The 6ft4in centre-back is one of Europe’s hottest properties after impressing in his debut season at the Rajko Mitic Stadium, with Paris Saint-Germain and Everton reportedly interested in the player, who has been hailed as one of the continent’s best young technical defenders.
