Celtic working to agree quick arrival – Manager confirms negotiations

Celtic have been working on adding Royal Antwerp’s Michel-Ange Balikwisha to Brendan Rodgers’ squad this summer.

Last Wednesday, journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported Celtic have an agreement in principle with the Belgian club. However, the operation remains complicated due to internal issues related to the player.

On Sunday, the same journalist reported Celtic have managed to break the deadlock and reached an agreement with the winger for personal terms. Het Belang van Limburg said he was left out of the squad to face KV Mechelen yesterday.

De Morgen, a newspaper local to the Belgian club, reports the 24-year-old and goalkeeper Senne Lammens are highly likely to leave Royal Antwerp this week.

After Royal Antwerp’s 2-1 win over Mechelen at home, the player said goodbye to the fans as he’s close to joining the Scottish champions.

The report explains Celtic are sorting out the last details with the Jupiler Pro League side to finalise his signing.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are now edging closer, after failing to sign the Belgian in the last two windows.

Royal Antwerp manager Stef Wils was asked about Balikwisha and Lammens’ omission from the squad and Voetbal Primeur have relayed his comments.

“The same applies to both players. There are discussions at club level as well as with the players. That’s why I thought it wiser to leave them out of the squad,” he said.
