Championship rivals braced for manager vultures as Jack Wilshere ruled out of Norwich job

Managerial roundabout is swinging fiercely in the Championship in the first week after the end of the season.

Norwich City have ruled out giving their manager’s job to Jack Wilshere while Portsmouth are braced for interest in their boss John Mousinho as the Championship managerial roundabout swings in the close season.

There are already four managerial vacancies in the Championship for next season, with Watford, Norwich, West Brom and Southampton all looking to make new appointments. Queens Park Rangers are expected to follow suit while Hull City, Middlesbrough and Leicester City are still to make a call on whether to stick or twist.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl is making it no secret he could leave this summer too amid speculation he could head to the Bundesliga.

Wilshere had been in caretaker charge at Norwich for the last two games of the season but four points to guarantee 13th spot were not enough to get him the job full-time. The former Arsenal midfielder is expected to leave Carrow Road.

“Jack is a fantastic person. First and foremost, he and I have got a big history together,” said sporting director Ben Knapper. “He’s a great coach, and he’s going to be a fantastic head coach, but that’s not going to be here at this particular moment in time. So our search is focused externally.

“Naturally he was disappointed. He’s super-ambitious, and rightly so he should be. But for where we are right now, and the context, we’re focusing externally.”

Mouinsho guided Portsmouth to promotion from League One and then Championship safety, based largely on their form at Fratton Park.

Pompey sporting director Rich Hughes, who grew up in North Staffordshire, told the Portsmouth News: “Yes I am concerned (there will be interest in Mousinho this summer), just on the basis of what a wonderful job he is doing here, but John knows what we are trying to build – and there’s room to grow and room to keep getting better.
