The fire broke out near Oldham Road in Ripponden just after midday on Thursday. Smoke billowed over the busy route as 18 fire units were dispatched to combat the blaze.

Emergency services remained on the moor overnight, and the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) said seven units were still fighting the fire on Friday morning (May 2).

A section of the M62 was also closed due to a crash on Friday afternoon. The freeway is closed westbound between junctions 19 for Heywood and 18 for Simister Island.
