Burnley’s “special” parade provided an emotional Josh Laurent with memories that he will treasure forever.
Laurent, a £500,000 signing from Stoke City during the summer transfer window, had a memorable first season at Turf Moor.
His 30th birthday coincided with Burnley’s celebrations, which included a civic welcome and an open-top bus parade.
“This is my first parade, so it’s special,” he told the Burnley Express. “It’s much more amazing to share it with my teammates, the dressing room, the entire staff, and everyone inside the building.
“It means a lot to me to share this with the club and fans…” This will be something I treasure for the rest of my life.
“I’m going to try not to cry; I’ve cried plenty since we were promoted, but the group has only gotten better. We go to the practice field, we work hard for each other, and then you go into the locker room, and we’re all laughing, smiling, and joking.
We’re so united. “It isn’t only about football; it’s also about life outside of sport. We go out with each other, we spend time together, and then there’s the coaching staff, who want the best for you and care about you not only on the football ground but also off it.
“Fair play to the gaffer, that’s what he brings, that’s the culture he’s created, but it means a lot to us and it means a lot to me.”
In reality, Laurent had high respect for Parker, who orchestrated Burnley’s immediate return to the top flight with a 100-point season. “He won manager of the season, and I had no doubts. “It was always going to be him,” Laurent explained.
“First, before we talk about him as a manager, we need to talk about the type of man he is. He’s one of the greatest I’ve encountered in terms of his underlying values and personality.
“On the pitch as well, he just wants to see hard work.”
