COLCHESTER United will start the 2019 Sky Bet League Two season at home against Tranmere Rovers. The EFL fixtures for the 2025/26 season were revealed this lunchtime, and the U’s will visit Tranmere on August 2 at the JobServe Community Stadium. Colchester has only been handed a home game to begin the league season three times in the last 10 years.
The last time they were given a season-opening fixture at the JobServe Community Stadium, their game against Swindon Town in 2023 was postponed due to heavy rain, therefore the U’s began their league season away at Bradford City the next week.
Danny Cowley’s side will then travel to newly promoted Oldham Athletic on August 9, before facing relegated Shrewsbury Town on August 16.
Colchester will then host Cambridge United on August 19, followed by a home game against Barrow on August 23, and a trip to newly promoted Barnet on August 30. Spurs icon backs Jaden Williams to be successful at U’s.
Colchester will play either promoted or relegated teams in each of their first six League Two matches. The United will travel to Crawley Town on Boxing Day, Gillingham on December 29, and host big-spending MK Dons on New Year’s Day.
Over the Easter weekend, they will host Oldham Athletic on Good Friday (April 3) and Tranmere Rovers on Easter Monday (April 6). The U’s will finish the season with a game against Cheltenham Town on May 2.
The relegation of Carlisle United and Morecambe, two of Colchester’s longest travels this season, to the National League has reduced the number of miles they must travel, as has the promotion of Bradford City and Port Vale to League One.
Barnet’s return to the EFL, combined with Crawley Town and
Cambridge United’s relegation to League Two, has helped to reduce the number of miles the U’s and their supporters will have to travel, however AFC Wimbledon’s promotion has deprived the U’s of one of their shorter travels.
Colchester will look to improve on their tenth-place performance in the 2024/25 season, when they were in with a chance of making the play-offs until the last day of the season.Their first friendly is scheduled for July 12 in Maldon and Tiptree.
The draw for the first round of the Carabao Cup takes place today at 4.30pm and will be carried live by Sky Sports News.
