‘Conversations’ planned despite Middlesbrough loan man’s disappointing struggle
Sammy Silvera has disappointed during his time at Blackpool.
Blackpool boss Steve Bruce suggested there would be conversations to be had, despite admitting that Sammy Silvera’s loan spell with the Seasiders had been disappointing.
Injury meant Silvera missed Blackpool’s final two games of the season as Bruce’s side missed out on the play-offs in League One. For Silvera, it proved a season of struggle while on loan from Middlesbrough, initially at Portsmouth before being recalled early to move to Blackpool instead in the second half of the season.
In total, Silvera made only 15 appearances during his time at Bloomfield Road, but only three of them were starts. Most recently, he started a defeat to Wrexham that all but ended their top-six aspirations with all Blackpool players disappointing in that one.
After confirming Silvera would miss their final game, Bruce admitted of his loan spell: “It’s been disappointing for Sammy. After a really bright start, he’s not been able to have a run in the team. Basically, it’s not just injury, it’s been the way the team has played. He’s a very good player, and we wish him well. We will have a conversation to see what he’s up to.”
While wishing Silvera well suggests his time at Blackpool is over, the conversation aspect of his comments suggests that they might give some consideration to signing the Australian permanently. After a season of struggles, Boro are unlikely to stand in Silvera’s way in looking for a new home this summer as their gamble on the former A-League star ultimately didn’t pay off.
