Coventry City backed to complete Nottingham Forest transfer – it would be “massive”

As recently revealed by Football League World, Coventry City are reportedly weighing up a summer transfer swoop for Nottingham Forest left-back Harry Toffolo – who is expected to leave the City Ground on a free transfer when his contract expires.

The Sky Blues are apparently competing with Championship rivals Norwich City for the 29-year-old defender, with both clubs citing the left-back position as an area in need of improvement ahead of the 2025/2026 season.

Coventry City urged to not miss the opportunity of signing Harry Toffolo

Harry Toffolo celebrating

Chris Deez, FLW’s resident Coventry City fan analyst, is excited about the prospective signing of Toffolo, seeing it as a critical piece of business for Frank Lampard’s side as they aim to build on their disappointment in the play-offs.

“I’m really excited by us being linked with Toffolo, massively important that we sort out our left-back situation,” Chris told Football Weekly.

“Jay Dasilva has had a pretty solid season; Bidwell is a real fan-favourite, cult-hero, but he doesn’t have the legs to play multiple games a week; he’s a good defender but not very good going forward; Dasilva, on the other hand, is great going forward but a bad defender – most of the time.

“You don’t pass up bringing in somebody of Toffolo’s calibre, I’ve been a really big fan of his the last few years”

Harry Toffolo’s wage could be an issue amid competition from Norwich City

Toffolo’s current estimated wage of £35,000, according to Capology, is something Chris believes could be a stumbling block, though it’s worth noting that as of July 1, he will be paid £0 per week.

Chris suggested: “I believe we should persuade him to take a wage cut, ideally down to £20,000 – £25,000… I know Norwich is also interested in him.

“I would like to think the appeal of playing for Lampard first of all and the fact that we’ve completed the last couple of seasons so strongly.

“Wembley play-offs, into this season’s play-offs as well, I’d like to think that’s more appealing than going to Norwich, who are such a strange and inconsistent team; they could probably just about afford to pay him more than us; I don’t know what their finances are like, but I would absolutely love, love, love for him to come here.

“Fingers crossed, he’d be a massive signing.”

Toffolo’s probable availability follows a difficult season at Forest, where he has fought for consistent first-team minutes. Under Nuno, the defender has only made one Premier League start this season, a 2-1 win against Tottenham in April.

Norwich City’s interest may stem from the need to replace Manchester City loanee Callum Doyle, but Chris believes their current momentum and Lampard project will be the determining considerations.
