Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as Championship forward linked with interest from the Sky Blues ahead of the summer window.
Coventry City is reportedly one of several Championship clubs “eyeing” Oxford United attacker Tyler Goodrham this summer.
Although the Sky Blues do not yet know which league they will play in next season, their situation will become much obvious if they fail to overcome a 2-1 deficit against Sunderland in tonight’s play-off semi-final second leg at the Stadium of Light.
If, however, Frank Lampard’s players are victorious against the Black Cats then they’ll be 90 minutes away from a possible return to the Premier League via the Championship play-off final at Wembley a week on Saturday.
Whatever happens, City’s recruitment department has been planning for two scenarios, and staying in the second tier may involve looking at players like 21-year-old Goodrham, who has impressed at this level and has great potential for future development. He’s also a player who matches Coventry’s development philosophy of acquiring young players with the potential to become marketable commodities capable of playing higher levels.
According to Football League World, the West Midlands club have joined Middlesbrough and newly relegated Southampton in exploring “moves” for the versatile midfielder.
Goodrham has been one of the best players in Oxford’s first season back in the second division, and he was linked with a move in January.
A Republic of Ireland youth international, Goodrham is primarily a right winger – a position Lampard certainly needs to strengthen given that Tatsuhiro Sakamoto is the team’s only recognised senior operator in that position, while Raphael Borges Rodrigues is yet to establish his first team credentials.
The story claims: “Sources have exclusively told Football League World that Championship trio Middlesbrough, Southampton, and Coventry City are all eyeing a potential summer move for Goodrham.
“The young midfielder enjoyed a superb season in the second tier this past term, with him and centre-forward Mark Harris both leading the way for the most league goal contributions in Oxford’s squad with nine each.”
