Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive: Sky Blues reporter Andy Turner runs the rule over the club’s six out-of-contract players ahead of this week’s projected retained list
Coventry City’s retained list will be released this week, and supporters will learn the fate of several players, including first-team duo Jamie Allen and Jamie Paterson.
The list is expected to include six Sky Blues whose contracts will expire at the end of June. The others are forward Fabio Tavares, defender Jack Burroughs, midfielder Ryan Howley, and goalkeeper Cian Tyler.
Although the list was due earlier this week, CoventryLive knows it will now not be published until the end of the week.
So, what do we anticipate to see, and will there be any surprises? There may be a handful of players still under contract that Frank Lampard believes are surplus to requirements and may attempt to move on, but gone are the days where teams, certainly at Coventry, disclose the names of transfer-listed individuals.
In that regard, don’t anticipate the club to disclose its hand in terms of who they are actively pursuing to either leave for pastures new or cash in on to help restock the squad.
Sky Blues reporter Andy Turner has run the rule over the six out-of-contract players up for debate, predicting their likely outcomes…
Jamie Allen
The midfielder appears to divide opinion among the crowd, with some believing it is time for the 30-year-old to finish his five-year tenure and go on, while others value his role in the team and regard him as a useful squad player.
Although Allen is not guaranteed regular starts as City have evolved into a top-tier Championship side, he is a manager’s dream in terms of being low-maintenance and a perfect role model for the younger players, all of which Frank Lampard has frequently praised when waxing lyrical about the player’s contribution both on and
Yes, as a squad player, but the fact that Lampard hasn’t already addressed the problem raises the possibility that he may go. He moved quickly to sign Ben Wilson, Jake Bidwell, and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto. Not so for Allen.
We also have to consider what the player wants for himself. At his age, he will feel he’s still in his prime with lots more to contribute.
We also have to consider what the player wants for himself. At his age, he will believe he is still in his prime and has much more to contribute, and it may be a question of whether he is willing to remain a part-time player for the Sky Blues or make a fresh start with the goal of becoming a regular starter elsewhere.

Pato is another player who City’s head coach has praised since he arrived at Ryton for an extended trial period at Christmas before being granted a short-term contract until the end of the season.
Despite being a dynamic attacking midfielder who could play wide on both flanks and anywhere across the midfield/number 10, the 33-year-old was only given eight substitute appearances, totaling 73 minutes of playing in 16 matches.
His greatest achievement, without a question, was his incredible last-minute volley in front of Singers Corner to give City victory over Portsmouth at the CBS, securing his place in Sky Blue mythology as a true cult hero.
But if that is enough to get him a new contract remains to be seen. The fact that he was not allowed more match time suggests that his stay with his hometown club will be brief, sweet, and memorable, rather than a continuation of the fairytale.

Fabio Tavares
It’s no secret that the 24-year-old striker is likely to leave City after agreeing to join League One Burton Albion, where he spent the second part of the season on loan, scoring two goals and impressing enough to earn a contract offer from the Brewers.
