Milan van Ewijk is expected to surprise Coventry City with a boost. A transfer twist for Wolfsburg is revealed.

Frank Lampard and Coventry City didn’t need to do much to stay in a strong position to contend for promotion this season after losing in dramatic fashion in the play-off semi-final the previous season. The Sky Blues have been excellent at the beginning of the Championship season as they look to maintain a bid for Premier League football, despite being relatively quiet throughout the summer transfer window.
Following an opening-day goalless draw with Hull City and a 1-0 loss to Luton Town in the EFL Cup’s first round, Coventry defeated Derby County by five goals to three at Pride Park before thrashing Queens Park Rangers by seven goals to one at the Coventry Building Society Arena. Although they still have some work to do, Coventry will feel that their team is already in a great position, and they may soon get the added benefit of keeping Van Ewijk. Via his X account, Sacha Tavolieri claims that the agreement to move Milan van Ewijk from Coventry City to Wolfsburg, a Bundesliga team, this month is currently on hold.
According to Tavolieri, Van Ewijk was expected to leave England for Germany for an estimated £8.64 million, with an additional £1.725 million in bonuses. Although negotiations between the teams were reportedly at an advanced level and Van Ewijk had agreed to a four-year contract at the Volkswagen Arena, certain last issues have proven difficult to agree upon. As a result, Wolfsburg is currently focussing on acquiring Olympique Lyonnais defender Sael Kumbedi, who shares Van Ewijk’s ability to play both right full-back and right wing-back.
Van Ewijk, a former Netherlands U21 international who began his career at Excelsir Maassluis before playing for ADO Den Haag and Cambuur, joined Coventry from Eredivisie team Heerenveen in the summer of 2023. Since then, he has made more than 100 appearances for Coventry. Van Ewijk has stayed in the Coventry team and started all three of their games this season, despite the fact that his exit was long anticipated. Given that City has previously acquired Kaine Kesler-Hayden from Aston Villa for an undisclosed sum, it appears that Coventry has already anticipated Van Ewijk’s possible exit.
In addition to Kesler-Hayden, they have signed Carl Rushworth on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion and Miguel Angel Brau on a free transfer from Granada. In addition to Van Ewijk, Coventry may have a hectic final week of the transfer market ahead of them. Southampton has reportedly expressed interest in midfielder Jack Rudoni. Coventry has been linked to a club-record transfer for Charlie Hughes, a defender for Hull City, as well as a move for Luke Woolfenden, a centre-back for Ipswich Town.
