Coventry City set sight on 24-year old Spanish striker amid Fabio Savares Burton Albion link

The latest Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as Fabio Tavares confirms his transfer to Burton Albion

Fabio Tavares has sent a heartfelt message to Sky Blues fans after bringing the curtain down on his time with Coventry City.

The striker has signed for League One outfit Burton Albion linking a one-year contract covering the 2025/26 season.

The move comes after Tavares spent the second half of last term at the Pirelli Stadium, scoring twice in 10 games as the Brewers produced something of a great escape to dodge relegation to the fourth-tier.
The 24-year-old took to social media to thank City for their support.

“After 4 years my time at Coventry is done. It’s been a privelledge [sic] and honour to play for this great club. I’ve met some great people in my time there and made even better memories.

“Wishing all the staff, players and everyone involved with the club all the best in their futures. Thank you SBA for all the support over the last years. I will forever appreciate it and miss you. PUSB!!!”

Burton head coach Gary Bowyer added: “He’s a wonderful lad with great character. Unfortunately for us, he picked up a hamstring injury against Bristol Rovers that kept him out for a while, but when he came back he took his goal against Birmingham really well and set up Dylan Williams’ winner against Cambridge, which was crucial for us. He’s one of the best finishers at the football club and I’m really excited to be working with him next season.”

Tavares made just 27 senior appearances in four seasons for Coventry, and despite looking close to making his breakthrough with a couple of eye-catching cameos, not least against Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley last year, he never managed to establish himself as a regular in the first team.
