Coventry City’s recruitment department is preparing for another season of Championship football while also assisting Frank Lampard in taking the club a step or two further than they did in his first six months.
Although the head coach led the Sky Blues to the play-offs, a brutal semi-final defeat at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light ended the club’s hopes of reaching the final and facing Sheffield United for the most expensive prize in English football: promotion to the Premier League.
At the very least, the club now understands what needs to be done this summer, and a sixth season in the Championship offers the potential to strengthen the squad for next season.
Here, we get a sneak peek at the players who have been connected to the team thus far this summer.
12-goal striker
Anthony Joseph, a journalist for Sky Sports, wrote on social media site X, where he has nearly 47,000 followers: “A number of Championship clubs are interested in Preston North End striker Emil Riis Jakobsen, including Sheffield United and Coventry City.
“The 26-year-old’s contract is about to expire, and it’s known that he would prefer to join a team that hopes to advance to the Premier League.”
While the Blades fell to Sunderland in last month’s Championship play-off final, City has made it clear that they want to move up to the top tier and have been very near twice in the last three years with play-off campaigns.
Spanish left-back
Miguel Ángel Brau, a Spanish left-back, has been connected to City and is expected to join the team at the end of June.
Spanish social media site solofichajes123, which has more than 75,000 followers on X, claims that the 23-year-old has turned down a new deal at his La Liga 2 team, Granada CF, opening the door for a free transfer to the CBS Arena this summer.
Young forward for the Championship
According to reports, City is one of several Championship clubs “eyeing” Tyler Goodrham, a forward for Oxford United, this summer.
Football League World claims that the West Midlands team is considering “moves” for the adaptable 21-year-old midfielder, joining Middlesbrough and newly demoted Southampton in doing so.
