According to Sky Sports EFL analyst Don Goodman, Coventry City has a “nice problem” in the summer transfer window when it comes to selecting what to do with Haji Wright.
The former Wolves, West Brom, and Sunderland forward is no stranger to scoring goals. He had a great time watching many of the Sky Blues’ televised games last season and seen the USA international in action firsthand.
The 59-year-old has also entered the discussion of whether the team should keep their top scorer for another season or cash in on him and reinvest. Goodman isn’t so sure, though, after being accused of failing to “turn up” for City’s crucial play-off matches against the Black Cats.
When asked if he believes Coventry should keep Haji Wright this summer or if the Sky Blues would accept a sale if the price was right, he told Football League World: “I think with Haji Wright, it’s all about the price.” A club would charge a certain sum for each player.
In the last eight games, including the two play-off matches against Sunderland, he has only managed one goal.
He also failed to make the kind of impression you would expect from a player of his caliber in those crucial games. In light of that, Coventry might be willing to take a premium price and attempt to reinvest.
But there’s no denying that Haji Wright has all the tools necessary to rank among the top scorers if you can consistently obtain the greatest version of him in the Championship.
Therefore, it’s actually a good problem for Coventry to have.
